MIAMI – A Miami woman whose husband went missing mysteriously in Mexico six months ago has gotten the attention of Florida’s senior U.S. senator in her quest for help from the government.
On Friday, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson will meet Lourdes Batista for the first time. They’ll be joined by one of the area’s members of Congress, U. S. Rep Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, in a rare joint effort. The two lawmakers will discuss the government’s attempts so far to help solve the disappearance of Lourdes’ husband, Felix.
Among other things, Nelson has just placed a call directly to his friend and former Senate colleague Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She pledged to make the case a top priority, Nelson will tell Mrs. Batista Friday.
Mrs. Batista and her sister in law, Jackie Batista, will meet with the two lawmakers at 9 a.m. Friday in Coral Gables.
Ros-Lehtinen recently sought the help of Nelson and other members of the Florida delegation after raising the issue of Batista’s disappearance with the Obama administration and the Mexican ambassador.
