Text of Sen. Nelson's reaction to President Obama's budget plan:
February 27, 2009
Of course, I’m concerned by the deficits the president’s budget entails. But part of the reason for this is the budget doesn’t employ any of the accounting tricks of the recent past, such as keeping the true cost of the war off the books. It’s an honest budget and easy for taxpayers to see what they get for their money - www.budget.gov. I’m more immediately concerned about the depths of our economic crisis. And I think difficult times such as these require a budget that breaks with damaging policies of the past and seeks to get America back on course. This budget sets priorities in the right place: energy, affordable health care and improved education, as well as ending the war in Iraq and turning our economy around.
